She saw a need. She filled it.
Like most things great, it started by filling a need — with love, with patience, and with a quiet determination to do it right.
When Barbara H. Morris helped her own family move from a long-time home into independent living, she saw something the rest of the country hadn’t yet named — an enormous, unmet need for compassionate, professional support through one of life’s most emotional transitions.
In January of 1995, drawing on two decades of heartfelt service in healthcare, Barbara founded Smooth Transitions®. It was one of the very first companies of its kind, and it remains a standout in what would grow into the Senior Move Management industry.
Others soon tried to imitate her approach — too often without the heart, ethics, or expertise Barbara insisted upon. So she joined twelve peers to co-found the National Association of Senior Move Managers, setting the gold standard for care, integrity, and professionalism that the entire industry follows today.
For more than twenty-five years, Barbara personally trained every Smooth Transitions owner, building a legacy rooted in trust. Her leadership earned national recognition — including NASMM’s most prestigious honor, the Margit Novack Award of Excellence — but, more importantly, it earned the gratitude of thousands of families.
In 2020, Barbara gracefully passed the torch to a handpicked group of trusted owners who share her heart for service and her standards for excellence. Every Smooth Transitions team today carries her vision forward, with the same warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the people we serve.
